Massage Benefits

Benefits of Massage

In the right hands, massage therapy can help relax and restore the body, mind and spirit. While most people understand that massage feels good, studies have shown that massage therapy treatments can make a positive impact on the recipient’s physiological as well as their psychological well-being.

Physically
For many, massage sessions help them feel more like themselves. Whether it's tension from chronic stress, aching muscles or the challenges that come with perinatal changes, massage can often help people find relief.

Many clients have also found that regular massage sessions can help them maintain physical abilities to keep doing their favorite activities - from running to hiking, biking. Amy has even worked with artists and musicians who find that massage helps them to do activities that fuel their spirits.

Massage helps the body physically by:
  • Reducing muscle and joint pain
  • Enhancing immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.
  • Improving range-of-motion in weak or tight muscles
  • Improving circulation
  • Reducing muscle spasms and cramping
  • Relaxing and rejuvenating injured, tired muscles
  • Relieving tension headaches and migraine pain
  • Improving posture
  • Reducing the symptoms of chronic pain, including: arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome

Emotionally
The importance of the mind-body connection is often overlooked. Regular massage can help people feel more at home in their body by addressing the tension and pain that has been created by ongoing stress.

Massage helps provide emotional support by:
  • Reducing stress hormone cortisol
  • Lessening depression
  • Reducing anxiety
  • Improving mood & outlook by releasing endorphins – “the body's natural painkiller”
  • Lessening insomnia and other sleep-related disorders

Each culture has used massage to help treat ailments and boost morale. The modalities that have sprung up from generations of practitioners are now used by massage therapists to help treat an array of ailments. From Swedish Massage to Acupressure to Thai Massage, Reiki and Cranial Sacral Therapy, the restorative power of these types of massage can help relieve pain and discomfort on a variety of levels.
